15 Things that Happy People Do Everyday

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

Finding your inner happiness and beginning your journey to inner healing doesn't have to be some type of esoteric quest that takes a lifetime to achieve. In fact, simply by taking some simple, everyday actions, you can become a happier person almost immediately. To find out the secrets of happiness, you only need to look towards the things that happy people do. It's the same concept as mimicking successful people's actions or a studious student's study habits—doing the same things that happy people do will help you figure out your own path to happiness.

Fifteen Everyday Actions Happy People Make

Here's a list if fifteen things that happy people do each and everyday. Give some (or all) of them a shot and see how you feel. What do you have to lose except a little bit of grumpiness!

  1. Tell loved ones you love them. Letting those special people in your life know how you feel about them each and every day will open up the channels for reciprocation. Knowing you are loved and can love others will bring another level of happiness into your life.

  2. Let bygones be bygones. Happy people don't hold grudges. When you hold a grudge, you are letting a negative person or idea live inside of your head, rent free. Evict them.

  3. Exercise in the morning. Morning exercise gives you more energy for the upcoming day, plus it leaves you with a sense of accomplishment that will carry on throughout the entire day.

  4. Eat to live. Eating well is very important to your health, but food is a happymaker, you can indulge yourself in some of your favorite foods but do it on special occasions or once a week. People get out of control eating bad foods every meal. Save that hot fudge sundae for Saturday night and I guarantee it will taste extra special.

  5. See problems as challenges to overcome. This small change in your mental state will help you conquer anything that lies in your way.

  6. Be thankful for the little things. Count your blessings and be thankful for what you have. Remember, there are millions of people in the world who have it worse than you—case in point, you can read this and have the ability to change your life! Many people can't and don't.

  7. Dream big! When you aim for the sun, even if you miss, you'll be amongst the stars. Dream big and don't be afraid to go hard!

  8. Let go of the small things. Life is too short to let the small things bother you. Think about something that happened a few years ago. A bad day or even a breakup—did you live? Does it affect you now? Chances are it doesn't so it's only logical that the things that are bothering you today won't matter in a few weeks or months. So skip the wait and don't let them bother you today!

  9. Praise others. You'd be surprised at how making someone feel good about themselves will make you feel good about yourself as well. Give it a try!

  10. Don't make excuses for actions. Excuses are like...well, you've probably heard the rest of that. But it is worth reiterating that if you have to make an excuse for something, you should rethink that action in the first place.

  11. Live in the now. John Lennon said “Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans” and Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Both are spot on.

  12. Wake up and go to sleep at the same time. This is more about keeping your body in tune with itself, giving it ample time for the healing that takes place while you're asleep. Getting on a set schedule will increase your productivity and happiness tenfold.

  13. Don't ask for approval of others. You're the only person that matters when it comes to how you see yourself. As such, you don't need the approval of others—they don't have to live your life, you do.

  14. Tell the truth. Mark Twain said, “If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.” There are tons of other reasons you should tell the truth, but that's a pretty darn good one.

  15. Accept things as they are. Sometimes the world is a certain way and there's nothing you can do to change it. Accept the power of the universe as unchangeable in certain situations and you can also unload some of the responsibility that weighs you down as well. Swim in the waters of the universe's waves and go with the flow—stop trying to fight the current.
